Hurricane Irma came ashore on Marco Island and slowly moved north, battering neighborhood after neighborhood. The monster storm flattened mobile homes and flooded houses, leaving hundreds of people homeless and hungry, and waiting for relief in the stifling Florida heat.
But Hurricane Irma also brought out the best in this community.
Amid the wreckage, people across Southwest Florida stepped up to help their neighbors in need. From professional first responders to volunteer relief workers to regular citizens, the stories of people who rose to the occasion are too numerous to count.
