The Grammy Awards
CBS, 8 ET/5 PT

This year, CBS turns the hosting job over to James Corden, whose Carpool Karaoke is the most amusing and appealing musical bit to hit TV in years. That should make him a good choice for what is reliably the most entertaining of the major award shows, both for the breadth and quality of its performances and for the tendency of its performers to do or wear something outrageous. This year’s announced performers include Adele (whose Carpool bit with Corden was a standout), John Legend, Metallica, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban and Bruno Mars — performing at the Grammys for the first time since 2013. Oh, and don’t be surprised if Beyoncé shows up as well.

The Walking Dead

The Grammys, however, are not airing without considerable competition. AMC relaunches its still-hugely-popular TheWalking Dead — a show that might consider walking back some of its excessive violence and repetitive plotting if it wants to stay hugely popular.

Dead isn’t the only returnee. HBO brings you the debut of the sixth and final season of what was once one of TV’s most buzzworthy series, Girls. This week, Hannah is off to write a story about a surf camp, where she meets a hot instructor played by The Night Of’s Riz Ahmed.
