Kyle Shanahan is reportedly opting to not add an offensive coordinator to his staff with the 49ers, but he’s found the head of San Francisco’s defense.
According to Adam Caplan of ESPN and multiple reports, the 49ers will name Robert Saleh their new defensive coordinator.
No co-defensive coordinator for the #49ers. Saleh will be the guy once the contract is completed.

Saleh, 38, spent the last three seasons with the Jaguars as the linebackers coach. He has a connection with Shanahan from their days with the Texans beginning in 2005.
Unfortunately for Saleh, there isn’t much to work with in San Francisco. They had the worst defense in the league, allowing 406.4 yards per game — 14 yards more than the second-worst team, the Browns.
NaVorro Bowman is recovering from an Achilles injury suffered last season, while the secondary is a mess. At the very least, it’ll temper expectations for Saleh in his first season, considering how little talent they have on that side of the ball.
