OKLAHOMA CITY – To boo, or not to boo?

That is the question for Oklahoma City Thunder fans on Saturday night, when former MVP Kevin Durant makes his first return with the Golden State Warriors at Chesapeake Energy Arena.

If Russell Westbrook has his way, the Thunder fans will … do whatever their collective heart desires.

“Nah, I mean it’s kind of up to them,” the Thunder point guard who played alongside Durant for eight seasons said after notching his 26th triple-double in a 118-109 win against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday. “It’s up to them what they want to do. You know, obviously Kevin did a lot for Oklahoma City and our team when he was here, so it’s kind of up to them.

“It doesn’t really matter to me one way or another. It’s a basketball game. Gotta go out and compete.”

Considering the tone Westbrook has taken in the first two matchups with Durant’s Warriors this season, this was the kind of change that could temper the hostility when Durant takes this floor again. When the Warriors hosted the Thunder at Oracle Arena on Nov. 3, Westbrook wore an “Official Photographer” bib before the game that was widely seen as a shot at Durant. In the second matchup Jan. 18, another Thunder loss on the Warriors’ home floor, Westbrook made it abundantly clear that he was still not speaking to Durant.

We’ll see if this latest message has any impact on the mood Saturday. But Westbrook, surprisingly and impressively, is letting the fans decide how they feel.
